Netgear range extenders boost and lengthen the wireless network connection of your router. This blog will help you to find out the steps required to setup Netgear Range Extender after newly purchasing from the store.
Step 1: Open and take out the Netgear Range Extender from its packaging box. Start by plugging in the Extender device to a source or power outlet and turn on the device to initiate the setup process. You will see the power LED will light green. If that doesn't happen, press the Power On/Off button on the extender again.
Step 2: On your computer, go to the taskbar and you will find a WiFi icon. Click on that Wireless Network icon. This will list you a series of existing and new Wifi networks.
Step 3: Click on the new network named as Netgear_ext.
Step 4: After selecting this Netgear network, click on its Connect button provided below.
Note: There are two options to connect your device to the extender either using a WiFi connection or wired Ethernet cable. If you want to connect using a wired connection, use an Ethernet cable and connect the Ethernet port on the extender to an Ethernet port on your computer or device.
Step 5: Once you are connected to the network, open any installed browser on your system like Chrome, Firefox Or Microsoft Edge. Remember as the WiFi-enabled device is established, the Client Link LED light will glow green.
Step 6: Now at the top of the browser in the address bar type an URL as Mywifiext.net or http://192.168.1.250 followed by pressing Enter or Go button. This will take you to the Netgear configuration portal or admin console.
Step 7: Select and click on the New Extender Setup. This step will register your Extender device with Netgear using your contact email address.
Step 8: Create your own Netgear Account for device registration. Ensure that you are completing all registration fields given on the page and then click on the NEXT button.
Step 9: In the next step of the web portal, you will be asked on How you want to use the extender device.
Step 10: Now, select the option as a Wifi range extender.
Step 11: As you will select this range extender option, it will automatically search for available networks providing you a list of wireless networks.
Step 12: Select your Main Router Network name and click on Next button. Here you will enter the security settings of your selected wifi network.
Step 13: Please enter the existing network password( Main Router Wireless Password ) and further click on Next/Continue button on your screen.
Step 14: In case you don't want to extend both WiFi bands, either clear the 2.4 GHz WiFi Network or the 5 GHz WiFi Network check box.
Note: You can also change or modify the existing Network name and Network password for Netgear extender from the next page. Just click on Next or Continue button. It is recommended to enable the One WiFi Name feature which allows the extender to use the same SSID and password as your existing router or AP network.
Step 15: Save and apply the configured settings. This will show you all the information about New Extender.
Step 16: Once the settings have been successfully configured and saved, restart all the devices.
Note: Always remember to place the Netgear extender anywhere within the range of the main router ( the network you want to extend ).
Step 17: In case the Netgear range extender doesn't work perfectly, just hardware reset it to its default factory settings and setup it again.
So finally your Netgear range extender has been successfully set up and you can utilize it with any router device, from anywhere for your home and business applications.
