How to Reset TP-Link Range Extender to Default Settings?

Resetting a device is much more technical than it sounds. When it comes to resetting a router or an extender, it’s not the same as resetting your mobile. But if you start doing the reset on your own, there’s a high chance that you might mess it up and land yourself in trouble. 

There are ways with which you can Reset Tp-link Range Extender and we have listed a few down below. Learn how to reset any extender without causing any damage to either the hardware or the software. 

A reset is a general troubleshooting option available on the Tp-Link extender as an integral part of the troubleshooting mechanism.

There are two ways with which you can Reset Tp-link Range Extender;

  • Through Dashboard
  • Through the Reset Key

A factory reset is necessary and can solve issues relating to the continuous drop in-network, slow speed, security, and performance in general. But before we follow any of the above methods to Reset Tp-link Range Extender make sure that the primary router is working properly. 

1. Dashboard Reset:

It is one of the easiest and safest ways to reset the extender without causing any damage to the hardware. Follow the steps below to do a dashboard reset. 

Step 1: To do a dashboard reset it is necessary to have a device with a functional browser.

Step 2: Click on the browser on the device that is connected to the Tp extender. Type 192.168.0.254 or tplinkrepeater.net in the address bar. 

Step 3: Press enter and it will take you to the default login. The default username and password would be available on the label of the router. 

Step 4: On logging in, head to the System Tools, and below that click on Backup and restore. 

Step 5: Under the list that appears you will find the option for Factory Reset. Click on the option and let the process get completed. 

Step 6: Follow the prompts appearing on the screen. It will take time for the reset to complete.  

Step 7: Configure it once again after the reboot is complete.

2. Reset Key:

You can also reset the extender with the reset key. This process is a bit tricky and you must do it only if there isn’t any option available. Before starting the process please restart the range extender and then follow the procedure as given below. 

  • Look around the extender to find the reset key. You can find it at the bottom of the extender.
  • Get hold of a plastic stick, pen, or toothpick and push the reset key and hold it for 10-15 seconds but while doing this make sure your range extender is turned on. Observe the LED lights on the extender and once all the lights are blinking you can release the reset key. 
  • Wait for a few minutes and you’re done. The Tp-Link has been reset and you can now configure it.
