How to Fix Linksys Router Parental Controls not Working?

Linksys router is also very helpful for parents as they can restrict the access to their children pertaining to any given website that may potentially contain objectionable content. But if the parental control gets deactivated it may cause the organization a serious detriment.

I myself had this problem after getting the Linksys router installed on my system after which I tried to troubleshoot the issue by figuring out the reasons for the Linksys Router Parental Controls not Working issue and finding a possible solution. So here is a quick guide as to what could be the reasons for a dysfunctional parental control in your Linksys router and how it can be fixed. 

The Parental Control Option may not have been Enabled

For the Parental Control option to work, you should ensure that it should have been enabled. It can be set as enabled by following the below mentioned simple steps. 

Step 1: Open your internet browser.

Step 2: Now, type myrouter.local on the address bar and press Enter button.   

Step 3: Choose the Parental Control visible on the left panel of the dialogue box that gets opened.

Step 4: Click on Enable Parental Control as ON.

Step 5: Now, enter the URL of the websites that may want to block using Parental Control. 

The URL of the Websites to be Restricted may not have been Entered

There may be a possibility that the Parental Controls may have already been set as ON, but still the “Linksys Router Parental Controls not Working” problem may be existing.

To fix this in a different way, you may follow the procedure detailed below. 

Step 1: First, ensure that the Parental Control option is ON.

Step 2: Now, locate “Block Internet Access” option in the Parental Control window.

Step 3: Click on the Add Link option shown under Block Internet Access.

Step 4: Enter the URL of the website that you wish to block.

There may have been a Mismatch in Time Zone Settings

Parental control may not be functioning well also because of incongruous time zone settings that can probably be fixed by following simple steps given below.

Step 1: Open your internet browser.

Step 2: Type the Linksys gateway’s IP address on the search bar of the internet browser. Usually, for almost all Linksys Gateways the IP address is 192.168.1.1.

Step 3: After the Setup page of Linksys gets opened, click on Basic Setup.

Step 4: Now you should modify the time settings under the Time Settings option.

Step 5: Click on save to configure the correct time-zone settings in your Linksys router. 

Adding the Linksys Router’s IP Address to the List of DNS Servers

You may add Linksys router’s IP address to the comprehensive list of DNS servers published by Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) after configuring the router’s IP address locally by following the below-mentioned steps.

Step 1: Go to Connectivity in Network and Internet option under Settings. 

Step 2: Click on the Local Network option.

Step 3: Under the option of Static DNS IP type 192.168.1.1 and click on save subsequently.
