If you want to prevent your network from unauthorized access, then you must change the password of your wireless network. By securing your network with a new password, you will be able to keep it safe from the people committing theft and fraud.
Step 1: First of all, connect the power wire of your Linksys router to the electrical outlet and then turn it on.
Step 2: Wait for the power light to blink. Once it starts blinking, then press and hold the reset button that is located at the back of your router. Keep on holding it for at least 10 seconds. If you are using an old model of Linksys router, then press and hold the reset button for 30 seconds.
Step 3: Now, disconnect your router from the power source and wait for at least 30 seconds and then reconnect it to the power source.
Step 4: After that, wait for the power light to stop blinking. If the power light keeps on blinking and doesn’t stop, then perform power cycling again.
Step 5: Now, take an ethernet cord and connect its one end to the computer system and the other end to your router. Once connected, the ethernet light will get turned on.
Step 6: Turn on your modem and then connect your router to the modem.
Step 1: Open your web browser and enter 192.168.1.1 in the location bar and then click on the search icon.
Step 2: You will be redirected to the Linksys router login page. There you will be required to enter the admin username and password. Leave the username section blank and enter admin in the password section.
Note: In case the password you entered is wrong or you don’t remember it, then take a look at the list of default passwords of Linksys router. The model number of your router is printed at the bottom of the device.
Step 1: Go to the internet connection type drop-down menu and select PPPOE. Now, enter the username and password provided by your internet service provider. In case you do not have the username and password, then you will have to get in touch with your ISP.
Step 2: Go to the wireless tab and then click on basic wireless settings. Select Manual given under configuration view. In the SSID field enter your Wi-Fi network name. Now, save the changes made by clicking on “Save Settings”.
Step 3: Click on connect under internet connection.
Step 1: On your admin screen, go to the Wireless tab and then select the wireless security sub-tab.
Step 2: In the passphrase section, enter the new password.
Step 3: To apply the changes made, click on “save settings”.
After changing the password of your wireless network, all the devices connected will get disconnected. In order to reconnect your devices to the network, enter the newly created password.
